在微軟盛大的發表了 Windows 10 之後，Windows 7 和 Windows 8 作業系統也漸漸走向尾聲，從本週五（10/31）起，微軟將停止銷售 Windows 7 和 Windows 8 作業系統部分盒裝版本，也將停止提供 OEM 廠商 Windows 7 的授權。

本次將停售的版本分別為 Windows 7 家庭入門版（Home Basic edition）、家庭進階版（Home Premium edition）、旗艦版（Ultimate edition），雖然Windows 7 專業版（Professional edition）和 Windows 8 同樣在停售行列中，不過微軟會提供電腦廠商一年的延長授權，也就是到 2015 年 10 月 31 日以前，消費者還有機會購買到預裝 Windows 7 Pro 或 Windows 8 版本的電腦。

自 11 月 1 日起，所有通路商或電腦廠商將優先銷售預裝 Windows 8.1 作業系統的電腦。

對於不喜歡原作業系統版本的想要降級的話，得先看看自己的作業系統版本是否符合微軟的降級標準，例如 OEM 降級權僅適用於 Windows 8 Pro，除了這個版本之外的 Windows 8 都不能降級，降級也不是自己選擇的，微軟只允許最多降級到兩個舊版（Windows 8 Pro 只能降級到 Windows 7 專業版或 Windows Vista Business 版）。

根據 Net Applications 的統計，Windows 7 為目前市占率最高的作業系統（52.7%），Windows 8 和 Windows 8.1 的市占率分別為 6% 左右，已經停止支援的 Windows XP 還有將近 24% 的市占率。到底微軟為 Windows 10 鋪的路會不會成功，等明年上市就知道。
