南韓政府致力推廣價格更低、能源效率更高也更環保的下一代電動車，預計在2020年之前，把電動車的使用量提高到20萬輛。

南韓環境部19日宣布一套涵蓋範圍甚廣的措施，目標是加速電動車的商業化。具體措施包括延長實施稅務優惠、投資新的技術、訂定公家機關購車配額、研擬計畫擴增充電站數目，以及其他獎勵購買電動車的措施。

依照這項計畫，政府訂定目標，希望在南韓上路的電動車總數能從目前的800輛提高到2015年的3,000輛，到2020年再提高到20萬輛。
